A Look Inside The Culinary Philosophy Of
At the center of Chef Omar’s approach is respect—respect for tradition, for ingredients, and for the people and histories behind the cuisine. He views food as a form of dialogue between past and present, honoring origin while allowing evolution to occur naturally through craft and understanding. ABOUT CHEF OMAR POWELL
Chef Omar Powell is a French classically trained chef, culinary artist, consultant, and poet whose work is redefining how Caribbean cuisine is experienced on the world stage. Grounded in the foundations of Old World European cooking—most notably French and Italian traditions—his cuisine draws thoughtfully from the flavors, ingredients, and cultural narratives of the Caribbean and West Indies, presenting them through a lens of refinement, precision, and intention.
A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Omar began his career immersed in some of the most respected kitchens in New York City, working alongside and learning from culinary luminaries such as Daniel Boulud, Gabriel Kreuther, Chris Rosenblum, and Annie Quatrano. These formative years shaped his disciplined approach to technique, seasonality, and restraint—principles that continue to guide his work today.
Chef Omar later brought this foundation to Atlanta, where he spent over seven years as the owner of Epicurean Café, earning recognition for his ability to merge classical execution with creative expression. His work has attracted an international clientele, including celebrity chefs, internationally renowned musicians & artists, and both domestic and international political figures. He has also collaborated with the Bravo television series Married to Medicine, further expanding his presence at the intersection of culture, hospitality, and media.
At the heart of Chef Omar’s philosophy is elevation—not reinvention. His culinary experiences are designed as complete evenings, where thoughtfully composed dishes are paired not only with Caribbean-inspired rum cocktails, but also with elegant wines selected to highlight and enhance the nuanced flavor profiles of the cuisine in ways rarely seen. Each element of the experience is deliberate, balanced, and rooted in respect for both heritage and craft.
Beyond the kitchen, Chef Omar is an expressive poet whose literary voice informs his culinary storytelling, adding depth and meaning to his work. He is also the author of two forthcoming non-fiction books, including From Plate to Pregnancy: Boost Fertility Through Diet, a chef-inspired nutrition guide, and Money Making & Investing 101, written to introduce financial literacy to younger audiences.
Chef Omar Powell’s work spans fine dining, consulting, media, and cultural storytelling, unified by a singular mission: to ensure that Caribbean cuisine is fully and confidently represented on the global stage—through foundation, intention, and craft.
“My intention is to elevate Caribbean cuisine so it can be fully represented on the world stage—where food, culture, and craft come together over an evening of thoughtful dishes, elegant wines, and cocktails built from the rums of the region itself. This is about honoring where the cuisine comes from, while allowing it to stand confidently among the world’s great culinary traditions.”
